Subject: Urgent action on injuries and police force at the Tirana protest

Dear [Representative name],

I am writing as a member of the Albanian diaspora living in Vatican City. The images from Tirana are frightening. I want people on the streets to be safe and heard.

On 13 October 2026, police in Tirana used tear gas and water cannon during a student-led protest. Public footage shows force used as people were restrained or moved. Euronews Albania interviewed a man with a serious leg injury who said he was a bystander and that police hurt him. Injuries to protesters, journalists, police and bystanders have been reported.

Some participants threw stones and lit fires. That does not justify force against others. The Albanian Helsinki Committee said on 13 October that the acts of individuals cannot make an entire assembly violent and that police force must be lawful, necessary and proportionate. Video and the hospital account urgently need independent, person-specific investigation.

Please raise this urgent human dignity concern through the Holy See’s diplomatic channels and encourage protection, medical care and independent investigation.
